CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2023 TNSAM ADDICTION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES
We are thrilled to announce the establishment of the Tennessee Society of Addiction Medicine (TNSAM) Scholarship Program, dedicated to supporting young physicians pursuing Addiction Medicine fellowships in Tennessee. We commend the four outstanding recipients, recommended by their program directors, for their dedication and commitment to Addiction Medicine. This scholarship program marks a significant step forward in building strong bridges between TNSAM and academic colleagues, working together to address the challenges faced by those struggling with addiction in our state.
The primary goal of this scholarship initiative is to engage and retain young physicians early in their addiction careers. By empowering them as future leaders within TNSAM, we aim to foster a robust community of addiction medicine specialists dedicated to positively impacting the lives of those affected by addiction.
Each scholarship recipient will receive a $1000 grant, to be disbursed by June 30th, along with discounted fees for the 2024 National Conference in Texas, generously provided by ASAM national. This opportunity comes with some qualifying criteria, including active fellowship status in an accredited TN Addiction program and a commitment to remain in Tennessee after completing the training. We also encourage recipients to actively participate in TNSAM activities, attend monthly meetings, join committees and subcommittees, and contribute to quarterly education sessions on addiction treatment, policy, coordination, and other relevant topics.
The recipients will be able to present at TNSAM events, further bolstering their professional credentials while sharing valuable insights with the addiction medicine community. One such opportunity is the Mid-South Addiction Conference, co-sponsored by TNSAM and the Vanderbilt Department of Psychiatry in October.
As President of TNSAM, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each scholarship recipient for choosing Addiction Medicine as their profession. Your commitment is invaluable, and we are dedicated to supporting you and your programs as you embark on this rewarding journey. Together, we can make a significant difference in addressing the challenges of addiction in Tennessee. Our state faces significant issues, but we also have bold plans and an unwavering determination to make a positive impact.
– Dr. Jason Kirby, President of the Tennessee Society of Addiction Medicine
