Honoring Dr. Roland Gray, Medical Director of the Tennessee Medical Foundation
Introduction for Roland W. Gray, MD
Roland W. Gray, MD, DFASAM, has served as medical director of the Tennessee Medical Foundation’s Physician’s Health Program since January 2002. Dr. Gray had previously served as a TMF Board member and long-time volunteer for the Program.
Certified in Addiction Medicine in 1987, Dr. Gray has assisted more than 10,000 patients with addictive diseases, and serves as a Special Government Employee and consultant to the FDA Subcommittee on Drugs and Medical Risk Management.
A practicing pediatrician from 1976 through 2001, Dr. Gray is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Gray has lectured nationally and internationally on addictions, prescription drug abuse and physician health.
Since 1996, Dr. Gray has worked as the volunteer medical director for the Davidson County Drug Court, helping non-violent drug offenders to reclaim their lives. He performs the same service with addicted mothers and their children at Renewal House, a long-term treatment facility for women and children, since 1996. In 2004, the Davidson County Drug Court honored Dr. Gray by naming its rehabilitation building the “Dr. Roland Gray Vocational Building.” In 2005, Dr. Gray was the recipient of the Alcohol and Drug Council for Middle Tennessee’s John P. Mulloy, Jr., Community Service Award.
In 2015, Dr. Gray was appointed a commissioner to the Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program. Also in 2015, he was awarded the Tennessee Department of Health Outstanding Service Award for “his tireless service in improving the health, safety and welfare of Tennesseans.” In 2016, the Tennessee Medical Association presented Dr. Gray with its “Outstanding Physician Award.”
